Senior Composite and Mechanical Design Engineer (Ref REQ-210001)

Job Description

The Senior Composite and Mechanical Design Engineer will take full responsibility for assigned projects and designs, taking them from concept through to assembly, specifying tests and developing designs, production techniques and quality improvements in order to deliver class leading components to the car.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and development of composite and metallic wishbone solutions, from concept through to delivery.  Working closely with aero, Vehicle dynamics structural and manufacturing departments you will produce designs combining high levels of performance and reliability.

  • Work closely with FE engineers to optimise and develop structural designs providing the highest level of integrity.

  • Specification of composite NDT procedures and results analysis.

  • Technical and process development of wishbones and other high level composite assemblies, driving team capabilities.

  • Lead preventative and reactive reliability work for assigned designs and systems throughout component life cycle, ensuring highest levels of overall car reliability.

  • Design of other composite and mechanical car components of varying complexity to the highest standards.

  • Definition and management of performance and reliability lab testing programs for relevant designs and projects.

  • Close collaboration with other engineering departments and external suppliers to ensure fully integrated system designs achieving optimal car performance.

  • Support of junior design team members to develop composite and processing knowledge.

Candidate Profile:

  • Mechanical, composite, automotive or aeronautical engineering degree (2:1 minimum grade) or similar qualification.

  • Substantial and recent high level structural composite design experience in F1, another top level motorsport category or an equivalent high level engineering industry.

  • Excellent knowledge of composite components, composite science, tooling systems, materials and industry production techniques.

  • Understanding and use of finite element analysis tools and hand calculation methodologies to produce reliable and optimised designs, analysing and questioning results as appropriate.

  • High level mechanical motorsport design experience with understanding of materials and relevant systems.

  • High level of commitment and self-responsibility with ability and confidence to work independently whilst showing a tenacious approach to leading projects with strict deadlines.

  • Ability to effectively and confidently communicate at all levels.

  • Collaborative approach with ability to engage others at all levels to achieve integrated results achieving best overall compromise.

  • Experience of Catia V5/3DX and Catia/Abaqus FE would be an advantage.

An exciting position has become available in the applied sciences team for a new Simulation and Modelling Engineer. This position will report to the Lead Simulation and Modelling Engineer, and will work on exciting customer projects.

We are looking for pragmatic engineers with the appropriate mathematical, modelling and vehicle dynamics skills along with the ability to write quality code towards the development of our simulations in the desired environments.

Key accountabilities / duties include:

  • Develop and maintain physics models, sub-models and simulations to continuously meet the requirements of customer toolsets.

We’re pleased to announce a number of exciting new Cost Analyst opportunities that will play a pivotal role in our team’s future success. These positions will strongly impact on our team performance and will be vital in maintaining our competitive advantage, in 2021 and beyond.

Reporting to the Chief Engineer – Cost and Commercial programmes you will be working closely with the Operational departments and liaising with other Cost Analysts in the Design Office, Race Team and the Finance Team. You’ll be responsible for determining the cost drivers within your area of responsibility, ensuring there are appropriate cost controls in place and ensuring adherence to budgets through regular reporting. You will also play a key role in highlighting cost saving and efficiency opportunities and scenario planning to make sure the best value for money propositions are delivered.

This role will get involved in estimating, monitoring and forecasting costs associated with delivering cost centre budgets, seeking the optimum balance between cost, quality and time requirements. You will also be responsible for assessing the financial viability of improvement activities and for tracking costs which have a direct impact on our cost cap limits.

With the new Financial Regulations coming into place in 2021, it’s essential that we remain financially sustainable, whilst maximising our cost efficiency, and this role will be key to our success.

Key Accountabilities:

Business Partnering with a specific Operational department, you will:

  • Have a comprehensive understanding of the F1 Financial Regulations

  • Provide accurate costing information and analysis on F1 projects throughout their life cycles to facilitate decision making

  • Plan and forecast cost estimates of car parts, assemblies and systems

  • Work with the supply chain to predict the ‘total cost’ of components and activities

  • Compile, monitor and report on cost performance for the designated operational area

  • Drive cost reduction programmes in line with budget requirements

  • Support tendering/quoting activities with detailed cost estimates, and work with Purchasing on supplier management and communications

  • Ensure good maintenance of financial data held within SAP, Spotfire and other appropriate systems

Key Accountabilities

  • Capex Projects

    • Weekly capital reporting to provide the Capital Review Board with insight and guidance

    • Manage the workflow process and agenda for the Capex Review Board

    • Cash flows for projects within allocated cost centres

    • Capital forecasting and categorisation.

    • Depreciation forecasting

Cost centre Support and Analysis

  • Monitor costs and provide insight and analysis to support the values being reported to enable the business to make decisions in the future

  • Support Business Support and Business Support Operations to monitor costs and aid delivery of contracted and adhoc services to the business, utilities and rent

  • Variance analysis of actual costs against budget / forecast, including commentaries

  • Review costs with Cost Centre Managers

  • Produce Development Project Report for inclusion in Management Accounts

  • Produce relevant balance sheet reconciliations

  • Cost centre adjustments and journal posting

Budget/ Forecasting
