Job Description

The Senior Composite and Mechanical Design Engineer will take full responsibility for assigned projects and designs, taking them from concept through to assembly, specifying tests and developing designs, production techniques and quality improvements in order to deliver class leading components to the car.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and development of composite and metallic wishbone solutions, from concept through to delivery.  Working closely with aero, Vehicle dynamics structural and manufacturing departments you will produce designs combining high levels of performance and reliability.

  • Work closely with FE engineers to optimise and develop structural designs providing the highest level of integrity.

  • Specification of composite NDT procedures and results analysis.

  • Technical and process development of wishbones and other high level composite assemblies, driving team capabilities.

  • Lead preventative and reactive reliability work for assigned designs and systems throughout component life cycle, ensuring highest levels of overall car reliability.

  • Design of other composite and mechanical car components of varying complexity to the highest standards.

  • Definition and management of performance and reliability lab testing programs for relevant designs and projects.

  • Close collaboration with other engineering departments and external suppliers to ensure fully integrated system designs achieving optimal car performance.

  • Support of junior design team members to develop composite and processing knowledge.

Candidate Profile:

  • Mechanical, composite, automotive or aeronautical engineering degree (2:1 minimum grade) or similar qualification.

  • Substantial and recent high level structural composite design experience in F1, another top level motorsport category or an equivalent high level engineering industry.

  • Excellent knowledge of composite components, composite science, tooling systems, materials and industry production techniques.

Dyno Operations Manager (Ref REQ-210310)

Job Description

Reporting to the Head of Dyno Groups, this position has the responsibility for managing the operational aspects of the dyno test facility.  This includes line management of the dyno operational personnel, test bed service and maintenance, reliability, safety, and operational efficiency.

Key Accountabilities (Duties)

  • Line management of dyno operational personnel.
  • Managing the operational effectiveness of the four test beds within the dyno group monitoring KPIs against target.
  • Liaise with the Dyno Test Engineers for the implementation of the Dyno Test Plan.
  • Recruitment, training and development of the team, ensuring competent skill requirements are met in all areas.

  • Managing personnel access to areas of the building for security, confidentiality and safety purposes.
  • Act as the Facility Hire Manager to be the main point of on-site contact for customer use of the facility.
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory compliance with respect to the FIA Formula One Regulations; both financial and technical.

Responsible for Project Management of designated customer projects within the Applied Science Group which includes Project Initiation Document (PID) creation and management, scope creation and management, internal and external project communication, people coordination, and budgetary reporting. This is a ‘upstream’ or ‘mouth of the funnel’ role, spanning both pre-sale and after sale project execution. The Applied Science Project Manager will work closely with other Mercedes Grand Prix project managers where manufacturing and other resources are supplied by main Operations, which will come under the project ownership of main operations. The ability of the position holder to articulate technical solutions, make use of a good understanding of expertise and knowhow that resides within the F1 team, is importance to the role, as is the ability to execute agreed implementation plans at F1 standards of speed and quality.

Reporting to the Applied Science Programme Manager, the Project Manager is responsible for coordinating designated commercial projects ensuring that contractual obligations are met to the required standards of quality, cost, delivery and safety. The position holder is specifically responsible for delivering projects in line with the PID, meeting commercial income expectations and maximising profit.

Tactical responsibility for implementing agreed commercial contracts exceeding customer expectations for human and physical asset availability, quality, delivery, and efficiency whilst maximising profit, and minimising waste and cost. Work closely with internal and external key stakeholders, especially the Applied Science Programme Manager, Applied Science Engineers, main Operations Applied Science Project Managers, and Cost Analysts regarding technical and operational support for activities and opportunities, always striving for best-in-class service and project execution practices to deliver to the customer’s expectations.

Key responsibilities

  • Coordination of project team members.
  • Full project life cycle ownership from initiation to deployment for one major, or several minor, initiatives simultaneously.
  • Prepare estimates, detailed project plans, and design key milestones and gateways to facilitate effective and efficient project delivery.
  • Define success criteria and disseminate to involved parties throughout project and programme life cycle.
  • Attend project meetings and report on provide status regarding milestones, deliverables, dependencies, risks and issues.
  • Monitor, track and control outcomes to resolve issues, conflicts, dependencies and critical path deliverables and assist in dispute arbitration as required. Escalate to Applied Science Programme Manager as required.
  • Work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment demonstrating teamwork, innovation and excellence.
  • Manage project resources, schedules, and financials within agreed framework.

Key Accountabilities of this role include:

Key Accountabilities

  • Being the SME / technical lead for Storage and virtualisation services and infrastructure, owning the current and future state and providing secure, high performing, scalable services to the business (Enterprise SAN, VMWare clusters and workloads, PaaS/IaaS, Hybrid Cloud).

  • Working with business areas to gather, understand, and document data requirements and provide appropriate capacity planning and life-cycle management.

  • Undertaking operational activities to keep platforms operating at their best and aligned with industry best practice (monitoring, alerting, reporting, security, updates, standards).

  • Ensuring data protection, continuity, and compliance through appropriate backup and retention mechanisms.

  • Providing support to others in IT and the wider organisation as an escalation point and including out-of-hours support for critical issues as needed.

Technical Skills and Experience

  • Significant experience of implementing and managing enterprise SAN storage platforms and architectures, arrays, tiers, archiving (e.g. PURE, HPE etc.), and alternatives (Cloud / PaaS/SaaS).

  • Significant experience of implementing and managing VMWare ESXi platforms (to VCAP/VCIX level) and underlying host infrastructure (e.g. Cisco UCS, HPE Synergy etc.).

  • Detailed experience of the latest versions of Windows Server OS (MCSA/E Core Infrastructure level) and related workloads.

  • Linux/non-Windows client and server file systems, protocols, technology stacks and related workloads (NFS etc.).

  • Backup solutions (e.g. Rubrik, Cloudian, etc.).

  • PowerShell, Ansible, or similar tools to implement and manage the above.

  • Ideally, Linux OS and system administration.

  • Ideally, experience with containerisation and Open-Source platform alternatives (Kubernetes, Docker, OpenStack, GIT etc.).

  • Ideally, experience with multi-tenant / customer models of providing shared services.
