Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Performance and Simulation Engineer within the Vehicle Dynamics Group at Mercedes-Benz Grand Prix, contributing to the continuous car performance development programme by finding the optimum trade-off among several interrelated areas.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To develop the lap simulation models for vehicle performance analysis and development.

  • To improve and develop new methodologies of vehicle performance analysis tools for objective technical decision making.

  • To identify and develop solutions that address performance limitations / weaknesses of the current car and deliver lap time improvements.

  • To propose and develop new performance concepts that deliver performance differentiation from our competitors.

  • To contribute to the continuous development of the simulation and modelling tools to improve the team’s ability to identify and develop vehicle performance.

  • To contribute to the validation and correlation of the vehicle and sub-system models to ensure validity of simulation results.

Candidate profile:

  • Strong academic background with a Mechanical, Aeronautical, Engineering Degree (2:1 minimum grade) or equivalent.

  • Experience with simulation and modelling tasks in vehicle dynamics or in an equivalent high-level engineering industry.

  • Appreciation of optimisation problems, vehicle dynamics, aerodynamics and thermodynamics theory.

  • Experience using Matlab and Dymola.

  • Ability to work in interdisciplinary teams to tight deadlines and under minimal supervision.

  • Highly motivated and focused self-starter with excellent communication skills.
