Job Description

The Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team are joining forces with INEOS Britannia, as the Challenger of Record for the 37th America’s Cup competition. This project brings together two highly complementary spheres of high-performance, high-technology engineering and sporting challenge.  To strengthen our team, we are looking for additional engineers with a background in top-level competitive engineering such as Formula One, America’s Cup or equivalent to join our technical group, based at Brackley.

The Senior Systems Simulation Engineer will play a pivotal role in modelling and validating on-yacht and test rig systems. The role will transcend technical functions to ensure systems performance is as predicted and matches exacting specifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • 1D Fluid & Thermal System Model Development and Validation with rig and yacht data

  • 3D Component Modelling utilising CFD and SPH for detailed design evaluation, verification and 1D system model characterisation

  • Close collaboration with Design, Controls, Concepts and Modelling to ensure system performance is as predicted and in line with the requirements

  • Detailed documentation of simulation and analysis performed

  • Support of rig or yacht testing may be required on occasions

Candidate Profile

  • An engineering degree (2:1 minimum grade) or similar qualification with a minimum of 2 years of experience in a high-performance engineering industry

  • A thorough understanding of fluid-dynamics and thermo-dynamics theory is essential

  • A working knowledge of commercial CFD tools such as Fluent/StarCCM/nanoFluidX and 1D System Simulation tools such as Dymola/SimScape

  • Experience of coding in Matlab/Python is desirable

  • The ability to work across multiple projects and manage ever evolving priorities is an essential aspect of this role

  • An ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and confidently with all members of the organisation

  • Experience of 3DX/CatiaV5 CAD software is a benefit, as well as proficiency in Excel.
