Job Description

A fantastic opportunity has become available for a CAD Process Engineer to work in the Design Process and Development group. The group is responsible for defining CAD methodology, standards and new process’s introduction in the engineering department.

Reporting to the Head of Design Process Development and Customer Programmes, the successful candidate will be fully involved with a variety of CAD process developments, Formula One and Applied Science interfacing projects.

Applied Science is the commercial engineering division of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team with the mission to leverage the best motorsport technologies to deliver performance for customers across the domains of land, sea and air.

Using an analytical approach alongside a high attention to detail in CAD Process and Project Engineering, the successful candidate will be involved from concept through to delivery, making a real difference to how we work and deliver our CAD solutions.

Key Responsibilities/Duties

  • Prepare and deliver CAD best practices and procedures across the whole design group, ensuring these are applied in a consistent way.

  • Identify, prepare and deliver automated solutions to improve quality and efficiency of CAD car components using VBA and C#.

  • Prepare and deliver CAD design standards ensuring that these are applied in a consistent way.

  • Design support during peak design times; this may include composite and mechanical designs tasks.

  • One to one support to designers during the improvement implementation.

  • Work closely with the PLM group on CAD project developments and integration on the system.

  • Fully involved in DMU (Digital Mock-Up) activities during the projects design phase to ensure Right First Time delivery, reliability and quality of design installation.

Candidate profile

  • Mechanical, automotive or similar degree (2:1 minimum grade) or similar qualifications.

  • Highly self-motivated with eagerness for continual improvement

  • Good level of experience with CAD tools is essential (preferably 3DX).

  • Basic or Advanced VBA and C# knowledge.

  • Experience, Formula One car or Motorsport would be preferred but not essential.

  • Communicative and collaborative skills to deliver effective cross departmental integration and results.

  • Not afraid to ask, aware of won blind spots, willing to learn, and adaptable.

  • High attention to detail and the ability to work independently under a limited supervision to tight deadlines.

  • A can-do attitude, takes the initiative and doesn’t need to be told to and find opportunities and test new ideas.
