Creative Design Industrial Placement

At the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team, a group of passionate and determined people work to design, develop, manufacture and race the cars driven by seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton and rising star George Russell.

The graphic design industrial placement is the ultimate opportunity to kick start your creative design career by gaining valuable hands-on experience in a very exciting and fast-paced sector. 

The Brand and design team strive to provide first-class creative which adds value to the business, assisting it to visually perform at its optimum and stand out both on and off the track. 

The remit of the brand and design team is wide and covers many areas of design including all brand, trackside, internal, clothing, social, hospitality, interiors, and commercial design elements.

Proactivity and innovation are integral to the brand and design team’s ability to stretch to the ever-diversifying needs of the business. The successful candidate will support the brand design team with creative projects to contribute to reaching their goals and those of the wider business.

Key Accountabilities

Under the supervision of the members of the brand and design team, pick up live creative projects to increase overall capacity and assist the smooth functioning of the team. In particular:

  • Support senior design team 

  • Creative - ideation

  • Post-race image management

  • Pre-race asset creation

  • Stationery development

  • Hospitality design

  • Commercial proposals

  • Social posts development

  • Digital content creation

  • Internal branding

  • Weekly design deck overviews

Candidate Profile

As a minimum, the successful candidate must be studying towards a creative degree or master's in design or recently graduated. When shortlisting applications, we are typically looking for relevant university subjects such as graphic design. 

The successful candidate will have had experience working in an office environment (preferably in a design context) and should have a good working knowledge of leading design software.

The brand and design team requires someone creative, resilient, calm when working under pressure (especially within tight timescales), has excellent attention to detail, and is well organised. 

Flexibility in hours and approach is required, along with a ‘can do’, ‘team-playing’ attitude and the ability to work to strict deadlines under minimal supervision.

Recruitment timings and process:

Typically, our Industrial Placements are for a thirteen-month period with an anticipated start date of 3 July 2023.

By the time the placement begins, you must have completed a minimum of two years at university, with at least one academic year of study remaining after your placement.

Application is fully online. When you apply you will be asked to upload your CV and cover letter (the preferred format is one single pdf file). You will also complete an online application form including details of your academic study and relevant experience. Following your application, you will be emailed links to our online testing. The Hiring Manager will review your application and test scores and if successful you will be invited to attend a short video interview. The final stage will be an assessment centre to be held in late October / November.  This may be virtual or in person. Due to the volume of applications, we only provide feedback to candidates who are invited to the final stage.

All assessments in the recruitment process are in English: this is the primary language used within the organisation and you will need a good command of it in the Industrial Placement role.
