Job Description

At the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team, a group of passionate and determined people work to design, develop, manufacture and race the cars driven by seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton and rising star George Russell.

As an Industrial Placement student in our Information Security Team, you will be a valued member of the IT Department, bringing your analytical nature and high standards to a range of range of exciting, real-world challenges.

Working collaboratively across the IT Department, your ideas and skills will make a tangible contribution to the performance of our team, both on and off the track, working to secure our systems and data against advanced cyber security threats.

During this placement you will have the opportunity to work with industry leading cyber security technologies in fields such as data protection, cyber security incident response and threat intelligence.

Skills you could gain during your placement include:

  • Understanding how to configure and monitor cyber security tools

  • Understanding and mitigating cyber security risk and balancing controls with the requirements of the team

  • Investigation of cyber security events and issues that are reported by members of the team or via automated alerting systems

  • Driving technical and process improvement by identifying and communicating good practices and behaviours

  • Providing real-time analysis and reporting against a set of defined key performance indicators

  • The ability to communicate cyber security topics to broad sections of the team

Candidate profile:

You will have a strong background in computer science with a good understanding of cyber security concepts and principles. You will be capable of working both independently and as part of a team, have a learning mindset, good organisation and problem-solving skills and a fine attention to detail. 

It does not matter whether you already have an interest in motorsport, or not: we are looking for candidates who are passionate about reaching their full potential and are excited about constantly learning. Flexibility in hours and approach is required, along with a ‘can do’, ‘team-playing’ attitude and the ability to work to strict deadlines under minimal supervision.

Recruitment timings and process:

Typically, our Industrial Placements are for a thirteen-month period with an anticipated start date of 3 July 2023.

By the time the placement begins, you must have completed a minimum of two years at university, with at least one academic year of study remaining after your placement.

Application is fully online. When you apply you will be asked to upload your CV and cover letter (the preferred format is one single pdf file). You will also complete an online application form including details of your academic study and relevant experience. Following your application, you will be emailed links to our online testing. The Hiring Manager will review your application and test scores and if successful you will be invited to attend a short video interview. The final stage will be an assessment centre to be held in late October / November.  This may be virtual or in person. Due to the volume of applications, we only provide feedback to candidates who are invited to the final stage.

When shortlisting applications, we are typically looking for relevant university subjects such as cyber security.

We welcome applications from all candidates and will look to provide sponsorship to those who require a visa to live and work in the UK, subject to meeting all the necessary Home Office requirements.

All assessments in the recruitment process are in English: this is the primary language used within the organisation and you will need a good command of it in the Industrial Placement role.
