As an Industrial Placement student in our Enterprise Architecture Team, you will be a valued member of the IT Department, bringing your analytical nature and high standards to a range of exciting, real-world challenges.

Working collaboratively across the IT Department, your ideas and skills will make a tangible contribution to the performance of our team, both on and off the track, working to analyse and manage the data we produce and make useful recommendations to inform effective decision making.

During this placement you will have the opportunity to work with industry leading technologies in fields such as data lifecycle management, data ownership, architecture, and governance.

Skills you could gain during your placement include:

  • How to design and implement polices and processes to effectively manage our data

  • An understanding of how data lifecycle management impacts our technology roadmaps

  • Driving technical and process improvement by identifying and communicating new technologies, good practices and behaviours

  • Producing data visualisations, analysis and reporting against a set of defined key performance indicators

  • The ability to plan and manage projects involving cross functional teams 

Candidate profile:

Job Description

As an Industrial Placement student, you will be an integral part of the Applied Science team. Applied Science focuses on non-F1 projects and has an impressive client portfolio which means the work is varied, challenging and exciting. Ingenuity, lateral thinking and problem solving are just some of the requirements that you will need but a keenness to participate with and learn from the existing team is paramount. 

As part of the team your key accountabilities could include:

  • Design of complex mechanical parts and assemblies using 3D CAD tools

  • Produce documentation supporting design activities

  • Carry out FEA on parts and assemblies

  • Supporting team members with component/assembly testing

  • Liaison with other areas of the team

  • Coordinate the inclusion of parts and assemblies into larger systems which may involve hydraulics, pneumatics, electronics

Candidate Profile:

You will have a strong background in mechanical engineering or physics-based disciplines and have some knowledge of 3D CAD. Commitment and a focussed approach will be required along with attention to detail whilst working in a fast paced and challenging environment.

Job Description

Working within the highest level of motorsport as a key member of our Car Build team, you will directly support our process development activities, Quality Engineering improvements and be involved in all hands-on elements of the car build. This role will be varied and includes the CAD design of off-car components such as special tooling/packaging and assisting with our continuous improvement as we develop engineering functions within Operations. Our intent is to provide you with a personalised experience to help support your university placement, connecting theory to practice. Becoming the Car Build placement will give you a wide variety of experience in all the various elements of Build and you will become an integral part of our team with tasks which actively contribute to our team’s success.

Candidate profile:

You will have a strong academic background in a mechanical engineering discipline and be conversant with CAD. Some manufacturing knowledge would be advantageous. Your commitment and diligence together with a can-do attitude, will enable you to deliver the maximum from this opportunity and to create a positive profile for yourself within the team. The Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team have joined forces with INEOS Britannia, as Challenger of Record for the 37th America’s Cup competition, to be hosted in Barcelona in 2024. This project brings together two highly complementary spheres of high-performance, high-technology engineering and sporting challenge, with the goal of being the first British team to win the America’s Cup in its 173-year history.

We are looking for a Senior Structural Analysis Engineer with a demonstrable track record of ownership of analysis projects in reliability-critical applications.

Reporting to our Structural Engineering Lead, you will create and deliver “Right First Time” engineering to complex problems across the yacht. Your solutions, experience and judgement will make a tangible contribution to the on-the-water success of the Team.

The Role

Key Responsibilities:

  • Take technical ownership of the structural approval of complex yacht assemblies and make the correct judgements on how to approach the analysis within the time constraints.

  • Static and dynamic analysis of both metallic and composite components, covering environmental, abuse and fatigue cases.

  • Able to use a broad suite of analysis techniques such as contact, non-linear material, large displacement, modal, and optimisation.

  • Assist the group with organising suitable containments for feedback that is generated during prove-out, at the race event, or during servicing.

  • Work closely with Hydro/Aerodynamicists to identify, measure, and deliver the best overall solutions while respecting load cases.

  • Push the boundaries in pursuit of new capabilities, emerging toolsets and reporting methods.

What we are looking for:

  • Relevant and demonstrable engineering experience in a high-end technology application (for example: F1/America’s Cup/LMP/WRC/aerospace/defence).

  • Mechanical Engineering Degree or similar qualification at 2:1 level or above.

  • Communicative and collaborative skills to deliver effective cross departmental results.

  • Self-sufficient and self-reliant – able to critically appraise own results and the work of others, working autonomously and with minimal supervision.

  • Not afraid to ask, aware of your own blind spots, willing to learn, and accepting of change.

Advantageous (but not essential) experience

  • Detailed knowledge of Hyperworks and Abaqus simulation software, composite laminate optimisation, data analysis, linear vibration instrumentation and testing, use of 3DX/Catia V5 for CAD, general mechanical design experience, additive manufacturing (metallics and plastics).

The role:

The Technology Engineering Project Engineer is required to manage the planning, execution and introduction of Technology Engineering projects across the areas that Technology Engineering support including Aero, Dyno and VDG. Ensuring that deliverables of scope, timeline and cost are fulfilled.

The role includes onboarding and ongoing management of Wind Tunnel 1 (WT1) customers and support of the existing F1 customer in WT2.

Key Responsibilities include:

Technology Engineering Projects

Working primarily as part of the Technology Engineering function, the position holder is responsible for day-to-day project management of Technology Engineering projects providing clear priorities and project targets, whilst keeping control of project budgets. Including but not limited to:

  • Project scope

  • Budgeting

  • Resourcing

  • Project planning

  • Project progress meetings

  • Risk management

  • Supplier management

  • Project cost control

Technology Engineering projects are capability enhancement projects for areas across the company including Wind Tunnel, Aero Experimental, Aero Performance Group, Dyno, Simulator and VDG.

  • Responsible for maintaining critical spares inventory for all Technology Engineering-owned systems (model electronics, balances and other instrumentation)

Customer Projects

  • Initial technical point of contact for prospective WT1 Customers.

  • Establish scope of customer programmes and prepare technical proposals ensuring compatibility between customer requirements and facility capabilities.

  • Liaise with Mercedes-Benz Grand Prix Legal and Finance to prepare WT1 customer contracts and NDAs.

  • Arrange customer liaison meetings ahead of initial testing and session previews and reviews during customer test campaigns.

  • Maintain WT1 customer documentation including preparation of geometry files and tunnel configuration.

  • Set up secure areas for safe transfer of customer and WT1 information.

Commercial Support

  • Maintain cost model for preparation of customer quotations for goods and services.

  • Liaison within Technology Engineering and Experimental Aero to establish annual DEV Code and CAPEX requirements.

  • Preparation of DEV and CAPEX and justifications and submission thereof

  • Management and control of DEV and Capex budgets including liaison with project sponsors and finance business partners.

  • Provide a procurement service for the Technology Engineering, Aero and Experimental Aero groups.

  • Working closely with other stores members to help keep stock accurate.

  • Picking orders for various departments including Race Team spares.

  • Conducting stock counts.

  • Serving stores customers quickly and efficiently.

  • Assisting with Hand Carry as required for each event.

At the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team, a group of passionate and determined people work to design, develop, manufacture and race the cars driven by seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton and rising star George Russell.

The Team has set a new benchmark for Formula One success during the sport’s current Hybrid era, winning consecutive Drivers’ and Constructors’ World Championships in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020, and the Constructors’ Championship in 2021.

The role:

As our Project Manager you will join the IT team at a time of transformational change. Primarily focusing on all aspects of our IT Programme, the Project Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day management and smooth operation of various digital projects, ensuring that they’re delivered on-time and within budget whilst objectives are met. A tech-savvy professional with an in-depth understanding of how technology can help us achieve our business goals, the successful candidate will be methodical and have excellent time management and digital communication skills.

 Key Accountabilities

  • Collaborate with the stakeholders and target users’ communities to capture projects’ key objectives, success criteria and KPIs.

  • Facilitate minimal thus efficient business resources involvement into the different gathering and validation activities.

  • Ensure appropriate activity and resource planning of all internal and external contributors against set milestones and deadlines.

  • Organise and motivate the project team.

  • Ensure or orchestrate the cost estimation activities and manage the budget.

  • Implement adequate measurement of the customer satisfaction.

  • Analyse and manage project risks and corresponding mitigation plans.

  • Monitor the project(s) progress and report about it on a weekly basis.

  • Help continuously improve all stages of our Service Portfolio Management process.

  • Support other project leaders in adopting and exploiting our PM framework.

Technical Skills

  • Experience of delivering medium to large projects at an enterprise level.

  • Experience of managing projects in a complex engineering-led environment.

  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, with proven ability to motivate people and develop a genuine team spirit.

  • Excellent stakeholder management.

  • Advanced time management, numeracy, and analytical skills.

  • Hands-on experience with project management and collaboration tools.

Job Description

The role:

As our Build System Assembly Technician, your responsibilities will include:

  • Responsible for building & servicing of safety-critical car assemblies and systems ensuring that all of the procedures and quality checks are followed.

  • Key assemblies include Uprights & Carbon Suspension, Driver controls, Hydraulic Ride Systems, Cooling Systems, Hydraulic & Fuel manifolds, Steering, Gearbox Sub-Assemblies.

  • Carry out other similar skilled duties.

  • Ensuring builds are to latest specification.

  • Use SAP to create build sheets and ensure assembled components have enough available mileage to complete the planned event.

  • Manage, in conjunction with other team members, spares, lifting and servicing of car parts.

  • Assist with Applied Science customer projects.

  • Responsible for keeping a clean and tidy working environment in all areas within Mercedes GP Operations Centre.

What we are looking for:

• Experience in F1 required.

• Good knowledge of quality systems.

• Strong computer skills.

• SAP experience.

• Flexibility in hours and a can-do approach is required, along with the ability to work in a team, under high pressure and to strict deadlines with minimum supervision.
