Mechanical Design Engineer (Ref REQ-190274)

Job Description

A fantastic opportunity has become available in our Mechanical Design Group for a Mechanical Design Engineer. 

Reporting to one of our Lead Mechanical Design Engineers, the successful candidate will work on a variety of projects on the car’s suspension, steering and brake systems encompassing both metallic and composite design. Using an analytical approach alongside a high attention to detail to engineering design, they will work on projects from design through testing and implementation onto the race car.

Key responsibilities/Duties:

  • Working on the design and development of mechanical, hydraulic and composite assemblies to the highest standards.
  • Generating 3D models, Assemblies and 2D drawings.
  • Specifying and following the R&D testing programmes for safety and performance critical systems
  • Reliability management of assigned systems throughout component life cycle and in support of the team’s reliability function.
  • Close collaboration with other engineering departments and external suppliers to ensure fully integrated system designs, achieving optimal car performance.
  • Use of Catia FEA to support your own designs

Candidate knowledge:

  • Mechanical, automotive or aeronautical engineering degree (2:1 minimum grade) or similar qualification.
  • Minimum of two years experience in F1, another top level motorsport category or an equivalent high level engineering industry essential.
  • Experience of Catia V5/3DX mechanical design package would be beneficial.
  • Use of finite element analysis tools (ideally with Catia V5/3DX package) and hand calculation methodologies to produce reliable and optimised designs.
  • Excellent communication and collaborative skills to ensure cross departmental integration
  • High attention to detail and the ability to work under limited supervision to tight deadlines.

Graduate T & D Design Engineer (Ref REQ-190251)

Job Description

A fantastic opportunity has become available in our Test and Development Design Group for a Graduate T&D Design Engineer. 

Reporting to the Head of T&D Design group, the successful candidate will work on a variety of projects split between Test and Development design and Pit Equipment design, encompassing both metallic and composite design. Using an analytical approach alongside a high attention to detail to engineering design, they will work on projects from design through testing and implementation onto the race car.

Key responsibilities/Duties:

  • Working on the design and development of a wide range of test fixtures and rigs for the T&D Lab to the highest standards.
  • Support lab testing collaborating with lab technicians as required.
  • Support pit stops activities working collaborating with race mechanics as required.
  • Generating 3D models, CAD assemblies and 2D drawings.
  • Reliability management of assigned systems throughout component life cycle and in support of the team’s reliability function.
  • Close collaboration with other engineering departments and external suppliers to ensure fully integrated system designs, achieving optimal car performance.
  • Use of 3DX FEA to support your own designs.

Candidate knowledge:

Dyno Systems Engineer (Ref REQ-190253)

Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Dyno Systems Engineer to join our Dyno Team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, configuration and health of on-car electronic systems and data acquisition during dyno test events. 

Key Responsibilities/Duties

  • Preparation of the chassis rack with reference code versions, datasets, calibration and set up according to MAMG requirements.
  • Monitor the performance and health of the chassis and power unit systems on event.
  • Reporting of test issues or failures to the Dyno Test Engineer.
  • Electrical hardware installation, configuration, and maintenance of logging schedule.
  • Live data analysis and development of analysis/post-processing tools.
  • Reporting of faults with responsibility for the resolution of support system related issues.
  • Mileage reporting and processing of dyno operational utilisation metrics.
  • Maintain CAN and Profibus communication networks.
  • Maintain the calibration and validation of dyno test hardware.
  • Develop a working knowledge of dyno control systems.
  • Liaison with electronics / controls to ensure the correct powertrain hardware and software configurations are applied.
  • Maintenance of concise and relevant operational procedures.

Candidate Profile

The applicant will have attained a high performing degree in a relevant field (Electrical, Mechanical, Automotive etc.). 

Experience in a similar role in motorsport is advantageous but not essential.  

Flexibility in hours and approach is required, along with a ‘can do’, ‘team playing’ attitude. Good verbal and written communication skills are very important. The ability to work under minimal supervision to strict deadlines and in a professional manner is essential.

  • Previous experience working with on-car electronic systems, data processing and analysis in a motorsport environment would be advantageous.
  • Familiarity with MES ATLAS and SECU software.
  • Previous experience working hands-on with on-car electrical systems in a motorsport, dyno test or trackside environment is preferable.
  • Working interest in controls system development.
  • Proficiency with Node.js or JavaScript and at least one of Python / C# / Matlab / C++.
  • Strong electrical diagnostic ability; 17th/18th Edition qualification advantageous
  • Good practical and theoretical knowledge of F1 gearbox / hydraulics / engine systems.
  • Highly motivated, able to make decisions within a pressurised environment and have an active interest in technical problem solving.
